Evaluation Question 1

Evaluation Question 2

Evaluation Question 2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In the opening title sequence of our youth drama film, different types of social groups are not presented. Our opening scene only shows two characters, the main character and a mysterious man. The mysterious main only appears for a few seconds and the rest shows the main character. Although we do not have a variety of social groups in our scene such as the common jocks, nerds, cheerleaders, our main character can be linked with other characters in real media products who represent a certain type of social individual.

Our main charater is only seen on his own within our title sequence which shows he has no friends and does not belong to a specific group but an individual instead. Although this means he does not belong to a particular social group, he is represented as a 'loner'. He can be compared to the character from 'Not Another Teen Movie' also know as the Beautiful Weirdo. Both dress in very plain and neutral colors as well as being on their own.

Another way we represented this 'loner' stereotype was to present him as quite smart. Usually, being very clever would be classed as a nerd and a nerd would typically have only a few friends. This contributes to the idea of isolation. He is shown that he is capable working with the chemistry equipment efficiently which adds to the smart factor as well as being alone in the classroom which contributes to the 'loner' stereotype.

Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing your product?

Using these different types of technologies during the production stage of our film was very useful and allowed us to add more creativity into our film. The use of effects in final cut pro was essential to some of our scenes such as the CCTV camera and reducing the brightness of the image which enhanced the thriller and suspense in our film.
The use of GIFS, videos and other presentation softwares in our blogs allowed us to present a more interesting and interactive experience for the audience.
Using Motion to create our credits was a lot more useful than using the text function on final cut pro. Motion provided more options to the text such as transitions and effects. The effect we went with was each letter appearing individually rather than the whole word showing up at once. This went along well with the theme of our film.

Branding our Blog

As our theme has taken a science turn with chemistry involved, we decided to change the background with test tubes and the font to a neater and more sciency.

Title and Ident Editing

Today we added in the titles from Motion along with the footage in Final Cut Pro. We realised that the amount of credits we had did not meet the length of the entire clip so we will need to make more.

Audience Feedback

We have gained some feedback from fellow classmates on our second rough draft and in the video uploaded above, any people suggested the plot was more along the lines of a science thriller rather than a drug/gang theme. We intended the plot to be more about a local student/drug dealer but instead we created a sci fi genre with chemicals and viruses. We have taken the feedback into consideration and decided to use keep the film we have and head for this sci fi genre.

Rough Edit 2

This is our second rough draft of out title sequence. We have put everything in order as well as the production and distribution idents. We still need to place every credit in its order. We also need to do one more final filming session to get footage for the ending of the film.

creating titles on motion

  • we used motion to create the titles we are going to use in the title sequence
  • we used the font Helvetica Neue. the font colour we used was white font that  is very discrete and the titles will appear on different corners in the frame dependent on the whats going on in that particular frame

EDITING 2

We have included additional footage we filmed from the chemistry lab and replaced bits from the old footage. I have also played around with effects in final cut pro and have managed to create this CCTV effect.

Our Final Production Ident

I decided to recreate the same ident I created during my motion tutorial as I believed it fit perfectly with our film. However, I did change the text slightly to make it look more presentable.

As you can see in the background there is globe which I imported from Google images.

Once I imported the globe I then edited the text for the ident adding 'Glowing Globe Presents.'

To make the ident more appealing I then added a sparkle effect to make a 'Glowing Globe.'

I then altered the text to make it say 'Glowing Globe Productions,' with Golden Globe in yellow to relate to 'golden' globe.

Distibution Ident

We created our distribution ident by using Logocreater and edited it on photoshop to change the colour scheme and add the text. We then used motion to add effects such as fading in and out so it flows well with our film.

Editing Research

We needed apply a CCTV camera effect for a clip in our scene so we looked on Youtube for tutorials on how to create one.

Filming Day 2

Filming of the chemistry lab was available at lunch so we took this opportunity and spent our lunchtime filming any shots that came to mind as we only had an hour to film. We managed to get many fantastic shots but i think we would need to re shoot the entire scene another lunch time. This is because i think the area we were set up at was next to the wall which restricted the cameraman to position himself to get all the correct shots. Overall, it was a good shoot and we have learnt what shots we need for the next time we shoot in the lab.

Rough Draft 1

  • we have looked over our footage and comments made about certain shots such as the lighting in some of the shots needed to looked over and the actions of the characters in the actual clip needed to be adjusted to go in conjunction with what we wanted the titles sequence.
  • due to the comments made we will need to film some of the clips again and make sure we have enough clips.
  • we will go back and re-film a lot of the scenes in the lab as the lighting was off and we didn't like the positioning of the main character in the clip.

Editing 1

We used Final Cut pro to edit our footage and put every clip in place. We still need to film a lot more scenes as well as re film the whole of the science scene because the lighting and placement of the equipment was too hard to work with.
