Evaluation Question 1

As you can see in the video we tried to stick to title sequence conventions by the order of the credits. Due to our film being a youth drama rather than a high school drama there aren't as much people named in the cast as high school dramas tend to have way more in the cast. As our film was inspired by Kidulthood we decided to recreate a few of the shots we saw in the opening of Kidulthood as you can see highlighted in the video.

Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The main character here is portrayed as a lonely science nerd who is very secretive. We see him doing some sort of experiment on his own. He then walks through the college without speaking to anybody and hides the experiment in a secret place. He texts an unknown character who's face we don't see.

This character is unknown to the audience. He is portrayed as a mysterious 'boss' type character. He is shown to be watching the main characters movements on a CCTV camera. Once the main character has his the experiment he texts this mysterious character. He is wearing a smart hat and blazer and money placed on the table next to him to show that he is a boss. it is made clear that he is in control of the operation.

Social media was key in promoting our film to our target audience as it is so important to a teenagers lifestyle. Pretty much every teenager uses some sort of social media. Knowing that, we promoted our film through Twitter, Blogs and Vimeo as you an see in the presentation. It was also promoted through Snapchat.

Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at my prelim film we already had some really nice shots but what has definitely stepped up is the mise en scene used. As you can see in the clip the mise en scene is pretty basic no consideration was taken to make it look like a realistic nurse/doctors office. There is a picture of an x-ray in the background but thats about it.

Whereas with the new film our mise en scene is much better. You can see all the test tubes and other scientific equipment to show whats going on. We also made a scene which made it look like the main character was on CCTV.

Evaluation Question 2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In the opening title sequence of our youth drama film, different types of social groups are not presented. Our opening scene only shows two characters, the main character and a mysterious man. The mysterious main only appears for a few seconds and the rest shows the main character. Although we do not have a variety of social groups in our scene such as the common jocks, nerds, cheerleaders, our main character can be linked with other characters in real media products who represent a certain type of social individual.

Our main charater is only seen on his own within our title sequence which shows he has no friends and does not belong to a specific group but an individual instead. Although this means he does not belong to a particular social group, he is represented as a 'loner'. He can be compared to the character from 'Not Another Teen Movie' also know as the Beautiful Weirdo. Both dress in very plain and neutral colors as well as being on their own.

Another way we represented this 'loner' stereotype was to present him as quite smart. Usually, being very clever would be classed as a nerd and a nerd would typically have only a few friends. This contributes to the idea of isolation. He is shown that he is capable working with the chemistry equipment efficiently which adds to the smart factor as well as being alone in the classroom which contributes to the 'loner' stereotype.

Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing your product?

Using these different types of technologies during the production stage of our film was very useful and allowed us to add more creativity into our film. The use of effects in final cut pro was essential to some of our scenes such as the CCTV camera and reducing the brightness of the image which enhanced the thriller and suspense in our film.
The use of GIFS, videos and other presentation softwares in our blogs allowed us to present a more interesting and interactive experience for the audience.
Using Motion to create our credits was a lot more useful than using the text function on final cut pro. Motion provided more options to the text such as transitions and effects. The effect we went with was each letter appearing individually rather than the whole word showing up at once. This went along well with the theme of our film.

Branding our Blog

As our theme has taken a science turn with chemistry involved, we decided to change the background with test tubes and the font to a neater and more sciency.

Title and Ident Editing

Today we added in the titles from Motion along with the footage in Final Cut Pro. We realised that the amount of credits we had did not meet the length of the entire clip so we will need to make more.

Audience Feedback

We have gained some feedback from fellow classmates on our second rough draft and in the video uploaded above, any people suggested the plot was more along the lines of a science thriller rather than a drug/gang theme. We intended the plot to be more about a local student/drug dealer but instead we created a sci fi genre with chemicals and viruses. We have taken the feedback into consideration and decided to use keep the film we have and head for this sci fi genre.
